Spice Up Your Summer

Summertime is the perfect time to indulge in fresh fruits and vegetables. While fruits and vegetables are full of flavor on their own, it can be fun and tasty to add anti-inflammatory spices to beat those aches and pains. Spices like turmeric, curcumin, and cinnamon are natural anti-inflammatories.

You can also boost flavor by adding fresh herbs such as mint, oregano, and basil. These herbs and spices help the body’s immune system fight off the inflammation that wreaks havoc and causes aches and pains. These herbs and spices also contain polyphenols and antioxidants that fuel our digestive system, reduce inflammation, and enhance our taste buds with each bite.

3 Tips for Buying Spices:

  1. Make sure to check the labels. Many companies will sell blends full of fillers, such as MSG, Sugar, and noncaking agents.

  2. Maintain the freshness of your spices by buying whole spices and grinding them yourself as needed.

  3. Don’t overbuy, as spices lose their potency over time. Try to use spices within a year of purchase, and buying in smaller quantities can help maintain freshness.
